Ingredients

  • 2 large eggs room temperature preferred
  • 1 slice bread any variety you like
  • salt to taste
  • black pepper to taste
  • 1 teaspoon butter optional, for spreading on toast
  • sliced avocado optional, for topping
  • fresh herbs or chili flakes optional garnish

Equipment

  • Saucepan For boiling the eggs
  • Toaster For crisping the bread
  • Slotted Spoon To transfer eggs without breaking them

Method

  1. Bring a pot of water to a gentle boil. Carefully lower the eggs in using a spoon.
  2. Boil for 6 to 6½ minutes, then transfer to an ice bath or bowl of cold water.
  3. Toast the bread until golden. Spread with butter if using.
  4. Gently peel the eggs under running water and slice in half.
  5. Place eggs on toast or mash lightly over top. Season with salt, pepper, and any optional toppings.

Notes

  • Use room temperature eggs to help prevent cracking.
  • Cold water stops the cooking and makes peeling easier.
  • Top with avocado, herbs, or seasoning blends for extra texture.
